Oh!Identity / 5:00 minutes
Artist name: Daria Baiocchi
By the words of Greek tragedy to philosophy, the issue of identity has accompanied the process of thought being able to open new possibilities of expression whenever the fixity of tradition and its codification has not been imposed on the creative transformation of culture. In this video, the artist, with expressive intensity arises over the ownership and “gender” with questioning the strength of a-priori sometimes dramatic and sometimes ironic, in the belief that only the power of thought to ask, could be the only defense against barbarism.
Art as “a singular thought” The complex and multifaceted artist absorbed the cultural humus of the 1960s although she has always treated it in a highly personal way, careful of her own expressive independence. The polyester sculptures from the early1970s, the photographs, performances, books, and paintings all reveal, as a constant in her career, the interpenetration of experimental research and critical reflection. The denial of the abstract and idealistic concept of art finds in History and in Contemporaneity the meaning of art’s own making. Central to her artistic expression is the need for a critical relationship to contemporaneity, explored in its most problematic and contradictory aspects.
